Comprehensive Cancer Care

Comprehensive Cancer Care at Grove City Medical Center provides management and all facets of supportive therapies to patients diagnosed with blood disorders (hematology) or cancer (oncology). Under the direction of Dr. Edgardo Lob, the center is open five days a week, for the convenience of patients needing regular ongoing appointments for chemotherapy or blood transfusions. Above all, the center offers patients an efficient, cost-effective and convenient alternative for management of their cancer or blood disorder. “When you’re sick, Pittsburgh can seem very far away,” said Dr. Lob.

Dr. Lob, who has treated Grove City Medical Center’s patients for 15 years, believes that “half of the battle cancer patients are up against is psychological,” which makes a strong case for receiving care close to home with family and friends nearby. “Our patients get to know the staff here very well and they develop a level of trust that positively impacts their treatment,” said Dr. Lob.

Among the advantages of receiving cancer treatment in a community hospital setting is the personal touch with which it is rendered. “We have the opportunity to develop relationships with our patients that enhances the medical treatment we provide for them,” said Dr. Lob. “We support them emotionally as well as physically, and our goal is to keep them out of the hospital as much as possible.”

Through a strategic joint venture with Life Care Cancer Center, Grove City Medical Center can offer patients another dimension of convenience for their cancer therapies. Located nearby at the Sandy Lake exit of Interstate 79, Life Care Cancer Center has recently undergone major renovations that include a significant upgrade in their radiation technology. “The new Elekta Accelerator allows for more precise, effective radiation therapy,” said Life Care Cancer Center Director Gayle Miller.

Helping patients maintain their normal daily activities as much as possible is a priority of Life Care Cancer Center. With this in mind, the staff schedules patient appointments in 15-minute increments to minimize waiting times. “Cancer patients experience so much upheaval in their lives and those of their families, and this is one way we can help ease some of their stress,” said Miller.
