The Procedure

For the procedure, you will lie on your left side. You will be given a conscious sedation - you will be very relaxed, almost asleep, but you will still react to reflexes.

The procedure takes on average 20 minutes and you'll feel only mild discomfort. Your colon is not a straight organ. Since the colonoscope can be bent, it is able to follow the natural path of the colon. At times, you may feel a cramping sensation. This is normal and lasts only a few seconds.
