What the Physician Sees
The colonoscope transmits an image of the lining of the colon. Throughout the procedure the physician is able to see the colon on the monitor. The physician is able to take pictures of the colon whenever necessary.

Actual Image of a Healthy Colon
Complications:
Complications from colonoscopies are rare - less than 1 in 2,000 examinations.
It is not likely to occur, but if during the examination there is a hemorrhage (bleeding) or a perforation of the colon, immediate surgery will be necessary.
