Yesterday, just as Grove City Medical Center switchboard operators were getting comfortable with answering the phones “Grove City Medical Center,” Mercer County’s first baby of the New Year and the first baby born under the new hospital name was making her way into the world up on the second floor. Larynn Katherine Emmett was born to parents Rachelle and Joseph Emmett of Grove City at 9:26 a.m.

Just one week before her due date of January 8, Rachelle’s water broke a few minutes after midnight on New Year’s Eve. “We were just home watching a movie,” she recalled. The couple never really gave much thought to having the first baby born in the New Year. “It didn’t matter when she was born as long as she was healthy,” said Joseph Emmett. And at 8 pounds, 13 ounces and 22 inches in length, she is all that.

Community Relations Director JoAnne McCliment expressed excitement on behalf of the hospital to be host to the County’s first New Year’s baby for several reasons. “We’re delighted to have the first baby here,” she said. “We’ve been gearing up for several significant dates, with January 1 st the most important. Having the first Grove City baby here makes it even more exciting,” she said.

On January 1 the hospital’s name officially changed to “ Grove City Medical Center.” Their “First-Day Celebration” for the community will be Tuesday, January 10, at which time the hospital’s new logo identity will be unveiled, complete with a fireworks display.

The Emmetts, who have a 2 ½ year old son, Sawyer, at home, are Grove City folks through and through. Joseph works in Grove City at the General Electric Diesel Plant and Rachelle operates Emmett Apple Orchards on their Enterprise Road property during apple season.
