NUCLEAR MEDICINE
A nuclear medicine image or scan involves the intravenous injection of a small amount of radioactive tracer. Following a waiting period, which varies by procedure, a technologist takes images from various angles. The radioactive drugs are extremely low in concentration and few patients experience any side effects or reactions. The exposure to radiation is about that of a routine chest x-ray. Common nuclear studies include bone scans, renal scans and stress tests.

The nuclear medicine department is equipped with 2 gamma cameras, including a 2008 General Electric Infinia multiple-dimension dual detector.
